Last year after a week-long hike we spent the night in a car-camping type of campground in the town of Bishop. Other than a meal, we didn't have much interest in exploring Bishop. Staying in a hotel would have been expensive. After we were already settled in, I saw a brochure for a place called Keogh Hot Springs. It looked like a car camping place where I could also soak in a hot spring and get a massage -- pretty appealing after a week of walking and before a long drive home.

This year I'm making a hike that goes in and out over Kearsarge Pass. It's out of my way (I return to Tucson, Arizona) to go up to Big Pine and check out Keogh Hot Springs. Where's a good place to camp around Independence or Lone Pine where I can get a hot shower and non-camping food to eat and maybe soak in a hot spring? Is there some place similar to Keogh? Is Keogh heavenly and worth the drive?

keogh is basically a big pool and a big jacuzzi. the water is nice and the hot pool is Reeeeaaallly hot. it's only like 6$ for a day. i don't know if it's worth making a special trip for. Beware of the 85 year old hotties who frequent Keogh in nothing more than thongs and pasties. watch out for the little urine monsters who disguise themselves as children to...

South on 395 is the Pearsonville truck stop. Showers for $5 (now?) with towels and hot water. A Burger King next door. There's Dirty Socks Hot Springs along Owens Lake, but I think it's a dump. You'd have to know where it is, too.

Ridgecrest has great food, with cheap motels. Sizzler, last I saw.

Thanks. Perhaps Keogh is better in my imagination and should remain there.
