Just came back from attempting MR on 4/18 and 4/19. Unfortunately the conditions did not allow us to make a summit bid. It snowed about 8" up high (iceberg and higher) on Saturday night (based on account of a person who stayed there Saturday night), was clear and warm Sunday when we started from the trailhead but a second storm moved in Sunday afternoon dumping about 10" up high. Very windy with gusts up to 40-50mph. Very cold, probably in the low teens. We camped beteen iceberg and upper boyscout at about 11,800 ft but based on what we saw Sunday night, we did not make it out of camp. Based on other accounts, there's a lot of snow in the MR chute and one guy (who went for it Monday morning) even had the slope behind him give away (slab avalanche) at about half way up the chute! Needless to say, he turned around after that. It turned sunny and warm again Monday morning.
Give the snow few days to go through the melt/freeze cycle and you should have good conditions in the chute for this weekend, as long as no more storms move in.
No need for snowshoes and the route up to the col above upper boyscout was pretty firm. We made from trailhead to lower boyscout in 2hrs, another hour to upper boyscout, and half hour to our camp sites at 11,800. I'll post some pics on summitpost.com later when I have more time.
