Is the road to the Portal free of snow and rocks?

Thanks!

Hey Fred,
Here is Miguel's report from April 2-3. He says the road is clear to the Portal, but that it is still pretty dicey up higher.

Sorry about not providing a direct link, if I knew how I would.

I'm with you. I usually see one or two signs up that are easy to drive around. They might be clearing the rocks off the road. I saw some clean up vehicles parked there on 3/26.

There were some huge bolders when I was there 2 Fridays ago. I was still able to get to about 1/2 mile away from due to the ice on the road... Are the bolders still there?

The road is open and free of rocks. There is still some snow in the portal parking areas.

I saw a picture of the portal this last weekend, and it looked like summer, with all the cars parked there! Road totally dry.

Yup, the Portal Road is now definitely clear and open. I hiked up to Thor Peak on Friday. Spectacular views.

I have said said many times before that a white and black is a regulatory sign. Because of posts like these, next year there will be a gate. As per Inyo County Road Department.
