Hi there,
Can anyone answer a couple of questions for me about the Mountaineers Route? We are going there in the middle of May and I need to know:
- When we go up the North fork of Lone Pine Creek on the way to LBS, UBS, and Iceburg lake, will we need to use snowshoes?
- Also, what do you think the route itself will be like? Will it be totally snow covered? Will it be very icy?
Thanks in advance.

Hey DM, May and even June weather can throw anything at the Sierra for a day. Ive been hit with snow and freezing temps in both months. I was in the Little Lakes Valley Mar 20 and the snow pack though changing in consistency does not seem to diminish with the warm temps. One April blast will leave snow and Ice through May, take the appropriate gear and make your decision in the parking lot. check out this recent snow pack in LLV http://community.webshots.com/album/128715130larjks
