First off this board has been such a great help, so I'm here with another question if I may. I want to get to Yosemite Valley from San Francico on March 24 or so. I did a map search and was sent via route 120 through Big oak flats. I have been that way in the summer, but this time of year is that road open in order for me to get to the Valley? I know route 120 splits there and towards Touolome it's closed. Maybe Yahoo doesnt know about winter closures, should I instead take route 49 near Moccasin, then 140 through El Portal? Thanks in advance, I really appriciate your help.

Check out the very first reply to your previous post about Tioga Road. The URL given there can be pasted into your browser and will take you to a California road condition site. Once there, key in "120", hit Enter, and you'll get the results for all segments of SR 120. Best to do this search just before you leave on your trip for the most up-to-date report re: that road.

120 to the valley is almost always open except during heavy snowfall. You may be thinking about the pass on 120 on the east side of Touolome going down to 395, which is often closed during the winter because of avalanche danger (a couple of years ago they lost a Caltrans worker clearing roads there to an avalanche).
