Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Summit via Meysan Lake????

I have a guide book updated in 2003 that list a route via the Meysan lake trail. Basically shows you heading out on the well marked Meysan trail,,,,then a trail leaving to the southwest,,,over the Mallory/Leconte pass,,,,past sky blue lake ,,,,,head northwest and link up with main trail at the John Muir intersection.

Problem is that the Tom Harrison map doesn't show the route.

does anyone know what the deal is

The reason the Tom Harrison does not show that route, is because it is not a trail route. It is a cross country pass, requiring some route finding and nothing more than slippery class 2. I've climbed to the top of the pass(while traversing those peaks) and to summit the Mallory/LeConte pass and decend to sky blue lake would require some very slippery class 2(with a full pack) so unless you are comfortable with boulder hopping with a full pack, I wouldn't recommend that route. The route finding is pretty minimal, check my website to see the layout of the land up at the pass and around it.
