Anyone have any updates on MR so far this year? Planning on going mid-late October and again this winter. Have not been to the store in many years; is Doug still running the place and do they still have those burgers on the menu?

Even from inside the Beltway, the magic of the webcam shows the immediate conditions of the MR. No room for interpretation when there's no snow showing. 62 degrees up high right now. Have we had a year yet that didn't drop snow within the first ten days of October? Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Super El Niño is putting on his tights and donning his lucha libre, so...

Thank you Doug. I hope to see you when we come through. Maybe we will bump our departure up a couple weeks earlier. One time I came up there to do MR and you gave me some advice that I took softly. Result was I saw whiteout coming down the chute towards IL, I heard your voice in my head, and I turned around fast. Lesson learned.

Thank you Jeff. I will make some adjustments and / or increased prep. I can't wait to get up there; best to be safe. I am esp grateful this message board is still ongoing and you all are participating actively. Thank you again.

The first two weeks of October is probably my favorite time to do a loop up the MR and down the MT with a quick break for Muir, ideally right before that first storm. Even with the El Niño warnings, it's all going to depend on what the jet stream is doing. Many years it gets locked in and you can see the very noticeable line delineating its boundary, usually around Big Pine/Bishop, looking at the range and seeing minimal snow levels and then almost a wall of snow northward. Experience, preparation, and paying attention is 90% of the equation, but it sounds like you're well aware of that. Have a great trip!

We are still on track for MR last weekend of October. Anyone have thoughts or recommendations on prep with crampons, harness, rope and some anchors for final 400?

Just saw this clip on YTube about the El Nino concept.

Thank you in advance,
