Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Seeking Extra Permit August 11th-13th

Hello Hikers,

I am camping at the Whitney Portal the week of August 10th. I did not get a permit this year unfortunately so I am reaching out to the forum in hopes of snagging one. If someone happens to have an extra permit that I can use between the 11th to 13th of August I would be really grateful. Happy Trails!

Permits can't be transferred but you could see if any one has an extra space you could join the group. also since you will be in the area you could check the permits for those days for cancellations for the next day or that day.

Whitney permits are nontransferable. BUT, when they are relinquished on rec.gov, they become immediately available. If someone here wants to give up a permit for this person (or anyone else), a time can be arranged with the permit recipient to give up the permit on rec.gov. The recipient can be on rec.gov at the same time as the permit is relinquished, and purchase it when it becomes available (I don’t remember if you have to refresh). I’ve gotten permits this way before myself. Of course, you DO need to pay for your permit if you do this.
