Portal closed many cars and hikers out in the back country most likely will be escorted out aa they come down.
If you have permits for the next few days check Inyo County Sheriff's website for the final information, Don't rely on second hand information.

OK Check the webcam and hit the expand button (+) and you can see the fire location lower left part of the screen, still burning , last night the entire area outlined in red was burning the red line is the retardant line dropped over the last 2 days . Portal Still closed as of 9 AM

Wind shifted late this afternoon and fire traveled down canyon and is just east of Lone Pine Campground now so the car thingy might be a wash . I Still plan to go up and see if we can remove several Trailers .

Hello. Been watching this and thinking of you. Good luck today. I hope you’re able to move your trailers and that the smoke and fire stay away.

Hi Doug,
Thoughts and Prayers for a good outcome for you and everyone in the effected area. My son and I were at Meysen Lake on Thurs. We came down earlier than planned when we saw the smoke as we climbed up toward LeConte. Decided to head down late Fri Afternoon. When we got to the campground many tents set up, stuff out on tables but no people and no cars in sight. Very Spooky. When we got to town we understood why.
This caused me to consider something I have failed to do on previous trips. HAVE A PLAN FOR FIRE EMERGENCY. 35 miles into the HST is a bad place to have an encounter. Not exactly sure what the best course of action is but would appreciated any input for those with experience.
Again hope all goes well and look forward to see you and the crew soon. Best Regards, Rick

Here's a very good Alert Wildfire webcam that's looking directly at the Portal. The location of where it's looking can be changed by those that have an authorized account on the site.

https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7564/. This link should get you the latest fire information.

Now the link will take you to a split screen so click to enlarge and you will see the detail fire limits ,and reports on lower portion of the screen.

Looks like it just missed the big pine at the top of the secret falls. (I'm sure Lassiter, Jane and Little Fay are still safe in the secret valley...)
