But I was serious! When in the area, I like to read about the area, especially works by local authors. So, I browse the shelves at the Portal Store and at the Hostel. Once I even bought a book from an author who was selling copies from the back of his van at the campground.

It was August 2019, Doug. The book was Chasing Summits: In Pursuit of High Places and an Unconventional Life by Garry Harrington. He told us he was going to climb Mt. Barnard the next day. Earlier in my trip I had read Tales Along El Camino Sierra Two! by David & Gayle Woodruff, and High County Women: Pioneers of Yosemite National Park by Chriss Enss.
