Folks: Starting in Yosemite - any idea how much snow will be on the JMT from July 4th onwards this year? Where can I find this info? Thanks.

If you know how many days you'll be on the trail, there's an awesome website that gives you exact snow depth measurements for every section by day and time in 1/4-mile segments. It also does a long-range weather forecast that has nailed it (to the hour!) every year for the last 16 years. Let me find that link and I'll post it in a minute. Hold on...

Jeff M, I suspect you are being sarcastic. If so, I am strongly offended.

Sorry you're offended, bro', but seriously, I first saw it on Reddit, but I can't find where it was posted. It was a pretty basic UI, but you could enter in any future day and time (up to 8 months in advance) and any lat/long point or route between points throughout the Sierra, and it would tell you exactly what the weather, temperature, snow depth, and air/particulate level (smoke) would be, along with GPS-guided route-finding for any areas that might require mountain skills at the moment so you don't need any prior experience (or need to bring axe & crampons---awesome weight saver!). It also had water purity data for nearest water sources so you could leave the steripens and filters at home. Another helpful feature was that they had live-linked the sat-tagged bears, so you could see how close they were to where you might camp, making it less necessary to take a bear can. They hadn't worked all the bugs out (and obviously, not all the bears are sat-tagged), but it was pretty cool. I haven't really had the guts or gumption to do much beyond my 5-day main trail hike of Whitney, so I didn't save the link, but I'm still looking. Maybe if someone else knows what I'm talking about, they can post up.
