Hey,

Has anyone done evolution traverse? It supposedly is one of Peter Croft's favorite climbs.

i wish i could say yes. croft did it in one long day. there is a lot of technical climbing as hard as 5.8 i've been told. the exposure is pretty fierce to. the approach kinda sucks to from what i hear. "The good, the great and the awesome" has a route description in case u didn't know. i'd like to do it sometime...

If you can get ahold of November "Climbing" magazine they had an article on this climb. It was not only a favorite climb of Croft's I think he still holds the solo record at 13 hours.

Thanks for the input. Hey vinze3.0, I've got "the good, the great and the awesome", on its way here as we speak via a Fedx truck. And spinefxr, nov. of what year is the article in? Because I have the 2003 issue and I don't remember seeing it there. But I'll look again. Thanks again.

Ed, The Evolution traverse piece in Climbing was in the August 1, 2003 issue. Also some other juicy traverses were described.

Did the Evolution a couple years ago in the late spring. The climbing isn't very difficult, and the route finding is easy enough for the backcountry, don't expect cairns. The descent portions will keep you on your toes, BIG exposure in sections. I would guess the climbing moves at 5.7-5.8, I used mostly knotted webbing for pro without problems.
Took 2 days, plenty of places to bivy. Bring all the water you plan on drinking.
Enjoy, it's a great adventure with a Euro feel.
