Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Odds of a drop-in pass for two in August?

Hi - No luck in the lottery this year and I'm hoping to be able to take my daughter on a Whitney summit day hike in mid August. I know that the forest service releases unused passes the day before, does anyone have experience that would guide me in knowing if it's worth the long drive to Lone Pine on the hope that we can get two?

if you have a few days it might work out. You will be depending on people who cancelled which at that time of year is going to be few.. I'd say if you have 3 days you have a decent chance.. and there is so much else to do in the area it's not like you can lose on a trip to Lone Pine
