Over the years I have skirted the Hills on my way up Portal Road or north on 395. I have also seen posts from Doug and others concerning this area. Feb 2-5 2 friends and I came up with my trailer and spent 2 1/2 days there. Hiked 10+ miles and did some 4 wheeling. Amazing area. Sat and Sunday mornings we were up and out before sunrise and witnessed the sunrise over the White Mountains and watched the first rays hit Whitney. It was truly a magical time and magnificent area. The snow that blanketed Lone Pine the week before was still evident in patches. The low snow level also thwarted our exploring further. There will be a next time.
