So grinding is almost to Lone Pine Campground and the paving hasn't started yet .Badwater race today and will finish Later Wed. night so this will add to the delay as the road is dirt and much dust so I think you will see one lane traffic and log jams.

Still 15-30 minute delays this week but as the grinding comes above Lone Pine Camp ground I expect the longer delays and we may see the 3 hour closures.

when they start doing it 5 or 10 times a year we'll call them crazy but for now you hold the Title. Had the honor of running into you last year when i got down and from what you were saying/ they might be fast but no not as nuts as you (ha). Less than a day is very impressive. I'm gonna shadow some backpackers doing a L2H in Sept, i believe it takes them about 10 days. I'll cheat it with a car. Sounds like the paving might even be done by Sept?

Road work change again yesterday , So they are paving up the road above the gate and have paved one lane to the top of the upper switchback . yesterday delays were about an hour , many trucks and machines on the road.
If they continue paving up the road it will be done this week , then the second lift will start and that would most likely be from town up . So far we have had very little if any updates that detail the work.
Clever person the other day used the I have a parking /Trail permit and they said I didn't need to wait, so that didn't work.

Paving is going quick.

I made a very short stop to Portal store today.

The road work looked very nice. The road will be wider, much thicker pavement than before and some area will have new guardrails when all completed according to the construction people. The wait at the gate area to Portal direction was about 15 minutes. It wasn't bad at all. All traffic control people were very friendly at both directions.
But, there is one thing. Be careful about loose and uneven road shoulder. The shoulder will be fixed later.

I saw hardworking Portal crew but Doug Sr.
Sorry to miss you.

We had a long chat with the "stop sign lady" who is a really friendly one on Monday evening. Good news is that the grinding work is all done. She said the ENTIRE road project was going to last until late Sept. Her husband is a foreman on the project. The delays on Monday in a.m. and p.m. were about 30 minutes.

Today Al from Ohio gave me the latest update, no road work on Friday and Paving starts again on Monday and the road to the upper section should be finished Wed.

Any idea why we would get updates from a guy from OHIO?
