So Desiree hasn't done the 6th lake chute or summited Langley and Louise is in training for the Matterhorn and Eiger in Switzerland next month. Frank stayed at 6th lake and we had beautiful weather and no one around again at 6th lake. Frank and Lou went home Saturday and Des and I bivyed at the lake, very quiet night 90% moon, light wind a couple of times, waking Sunday morning to coffee. When going to the summit Des took the far left side up while Lou and I went though the rocks. When Des came down the chute she said we were going to have pry her fingers from these poles, she was white knuckling them all the way down eek . So this is my 7th time to the lake and have only seen 2 other people there so if you want quiet and isolation 6th lake and the chute is it.

Lou brought up cupcakes for Desiree's 60th B.D.

Hi Mark,
Great photos.. trying to locate the chute on CalTopo... only see
5 lakes labeled. On that map is it possible they are calling it
lake 5? I want to try your route as a tune up for my High Sierra hike.
Any clarification would be appreciated.. BTW have you had breakfast with Shin at Baldy lodge lately? Its been a few years since we met.

Happy Hiking
Rick

That chute looks fun! When I did the NE couloir in April as we descended from the summit, Patrick pointed out where you pop-up on the summit ridge with this route. Looks like a nice quiet conditioning hike. When you do it as a day hike, what is your car to car time?

Finally got a chance to hike this route and it does not disappoint. Lots of cross country, lots of greenery, flowers and a tarn below 6th lake that could qualify as a lake itself. Lots of people down at 4th and 5th lake but nobody anywhere near 6th lake. The chute isn't that long but it had me sucking wind. Saw several bighorn sheep on the way down in the dry lake bed and in the the green area just below. I sat and talked with them for a while. They were not impressed.

Great photos James. Interesting to see the snow is still there.

I have been there 4 times and only seen other hikers in the distance once. Love it.
Thanks again to Doug & Richard for showing this way.

I have been told about this shortcut to Langley from Lake 6 by a friend who has done it before. I was wondering, if one camps at Lake 6, how long of a day hike from there is it to Langley? Thank you. Big Whitney Mike

I checked the time stamps on my photos: If you move fairly quickly, stop a bit at the summit and return the same way it is about 5 to 6 hours from lake 6 back to lake 6.
