Permit Lottery underway i figure a lot of people are thinking about the hike up. Before i did my hike, i watched as many videos and read webpages etc on the climb as i could find. More than a few times, there was a quote from Jordan Rane /writer guy/ about Mt. Whitney "If Mtns could talk, this one wouldn't"
So i guess some people agree with him.. I do not/ I can hear that mountain laughing at me from 350 miles away. Curious what any of you think? Silent Mountain or Old One laughing at you trying to climb up him or what?

I posted my short clip awhile ago, if you want to see a full video it is here. The description has little links so you can skip forward to points of interest. Whitney Video

In all honesty, Toomangoyah aka Whitney is too popular for its own good. Probably just as well it can't talk, especially with the plethora of wagbags full of #$%$ that careless (or worse) humans leave up there and along the trail.

This mountain was here before we were here and will be here long after we are gone. Like most mountains, it tolerates our presence and reminds us from time to time that we are visitors.

To each their own experience on this mountain or any other peak one chooses to summit. I've been fortunate enough to have enjoyed this and many other Sierra peaks/experiences over the years. The Sierra is a special place. Unfortunately, too many lack respect and either trash it or get themselves into trouble or worse up there. Don't forget a jacket and snacks.....

i pretty much agree with you // >>Like most mountains, it tolerates our presence and reminds us from time to time that we are visitors.<<< I very much felt reminded i was a visitor, that the mtn LET me climb it, not that i "conquer" it...
I hope more people hear it

They summed it up pretty well back in 1961. (Oh, and he is a she.):

Quote:
"Mount Whitney is an immense, good-natured mountain; its summit is not reserved for the daring. Though not easily come by, all who will plod and persevere on their own good two feet may reach it.

"There are no tricky stream crossings, the trail is wide, and gradual enough, someone said, "to push a baby buggy up it." The climb is really just a long walk...the more time you take, the easier and more enjoyable your trip will be...

...Take a canteen, very warm clothing and a wind jacket, for icy winds often whip over the crest."

—Deepest Valley, A Guide to Owens Valley, 1961
