Hi All,
Okay... so it Meysan Lake.... anyway went up yesterday since no one
else seemed to have info.. Left work early Fri. and picked up a permit about 4:30 Camped at Grass lake rose early on Sat. Morn ( not early enough though) to attempt Mt. Leconte.. the chutes were all full of snow. Nice snow tongue down to about a 1/4 mile from the south shore. Donned Crampons and started up. As the chute got steeper and the sun softened up the snow started post holing knee/thigh deep. at about 12,500 had enough.. I think this is best down early in the year when the snow will remain firm or later in the year when its mostly gone and at least clear along the sides. FYI the mosquitos were very bad. Met several groups coming up that didn't have repellent... oh well someone should feed the little buggers. Temp in Lone Pine was 104. 88 at the portal store Sat night as I enjoyed a great cheeseburger/fries and a beer. FYI there were at least 3 large rockfalls just to the right of the chute going up to Lone Pine Peak... Be careful...
