Thanks for the encouragement! We won't give up. Maybe we'll come up & hang out for a few days & hope for a no-show. I do like the idea of us "oldies" getting a free pass with our National Park cards. The same thoughts go for skiing Mammoth. Used to be we could ski free when we got to 65. By the time we got there, it was 75. And now, we have to be 80 to ski free. Such is life!

Hi Amie,
Not sure how to interpret you post, but it "seems" you think you need two permits for two nights. This is not the case. The following is taken from the recreation.com web site:
"Mt Whitney Trail Overnight: Trips lasting one or more nights require an Overnight permit. This is for the regular trail that goes to the top of Mt. Whitney and includes trips that continue into Sequoia National Park (i.e., Pacific Crest and John Muir trails)."
Note the "one or more" nights. You only need one permit for 5 people.

I know it only requires one permit for both days but was thinking because I was wanting two nights on the mountain is why I was not successful in the lottery since they only allow so many people per day/night. trying tomorrow morning!

It's "Pearsonville." Tsk tsk - next you'll be saying "Sierra's."

No, I don't need a hubcap, but I need a new roof. Hint, hint...
