Wild(flower) Betsy will have to ID these for me... it's been too long... I'm old, I forget...

I saw a bunch of really nice looking white flowers on the way in, but couldn't find any on the way out...

I kinda wish I had a camera with me, rather than just the phone...

Might just have to break out the 7D and a macro lens though... this was pretty.

No link to the album here... (some of you know what I was really out there for...) You can find it easily if you're interested in the rest of the photos...

These are out of my normal range of flowers, as I have hiked more in the mountains than the desert. I am not positive about any of these, but this is what I have come up with.
Listed in order of each picture:
#1, 2, 5, 7, & 8 Fremont Phacelia
#3 Some kind of poppy. I am going with Desert Gold Poppy
#4 White-stem Stickleaf
#6 Lace-Leaf Phacelia
I would love to see these in person, with book in hand!
I woud welcome any info from anyone who knows for sure their names.
Happy hiking among the flowers!! Wildflower Betsy

If one of your trips north will happen any time soon, I would suggest a side trip into Sand Canyon.

It seems to me that the bloom is happening way too early this year and if we keep staying as warm as we've been, it'll probably end way too early too.

Perhaps, but to whom? It's a complex process of subsidies and payments to pay airlines to service tiny airports like IYK in the hopes that air passenger business will increase to the point where taxpayer support is no longer a necessary incentive to an airline. But our Congress is in a state of near perpetual disarray, and steady funding of defense programs is interrupted regularly and travel restrictions are imposed. So, pick a "villian" of the many individuals and agencies on the horizon, and pen away!

And, if Lancaster with its proximity to both the Skunkworks and LA can't sustain commercial airlines, what hope does IYK have?

Send an angry letter about the lack of flowers, too.

You must have snow blindness because I can't fine any flowers from SnowNymph.

Better get in shape, you will soon be in the California SUN.

Here are a few more...

Amazing how green the desert is right now. A few locals I've had conversations with say this much green hasn't happened in a long time.

The new growth starts South of Olancha and like Richard said the Ridgecrest area is solid green and I would expect the flowers will cover the Valley floor in the next two weeks, We have had several hot days in the Lone Pine area so I think we will start to see coverage, Last year was a record for flowers not all at once but something blooming for many weeks well into late spring.

I have had the chance to see the desert in bloom several times miles and miles of color, each Valley showing another display and certain plants that you only see once in your life. Watch for Snow's photos as she will hit the canyons from south to North.

Also Richard keep posting updates around Ridgecrest , looks like your area will be the first to cover the floor

The quality of the photos should improve, starting tomorrow. I finally tracked down the 30mm macro lens for my Sony... haven't seen it since Nepal (almost two years ago).

I could use some California sun. In fact, I'll trade you some snow for it. No flowers here.

A better view of the green desert. It has past it's peak if we don't see more rain this year, at least where I've been.

I did some "abstracts" this morning...

And a few different floweres (I think)...

Lupine on the desert floor???
