I've encountered them and find them a cheerful presence with their apparent lack of fear and their curiousity. Encounters with such creatures is one of the nice things about the boondocks. The Canada Jay and the Spruce Grouse are the same way in that humans are not perceived as a threat and they'll approach people. The little birds that hang around the Whitney Summit will eat trail mix from your hand. I don't know what they are called. Do any of you?

Richard,

I've successfully posted the picture twice on this site but it eventually disappears from my posts. I think it's some type of problem with the webshot web site. Thanks for letting me know about my first post. I couldn't get the link to work that you posted so here's another that should work.

This is a photo of the bird I believe Adrian is referring too.

I believe this is a grey crowned rosy finch.

Kind regards,

A little bird with a yellow bill
came and perched upon my sill
I coaxed it in with bits of bread
and then I smashed its ****ing head!

OR

(with a brooklyn accent):
dirty little bird, sittin' on the curb
chirpin' and burpin' and eatin' dirty earthworms

What does any of this post have to do with Mt. Whitney? About as much as much of the other stuff on here lately. Happy Holidays!
