Miner's lettuce blooms in mid-August?

Around here in Oakhurst, they come up during December-February after the rains.

Heck, if they are up at the portal...road trip.

BTW, for anyone who doesn't know what miner's lettuce is: It has the consistency of raw spinach and can be cooked like spinach. If eaten raw, mix in some chopped chickweed and some Bragg's Aminos and you got yourself a salad.

And, yes, it goes great on a burger like the one above.

Dang, I sure am hungry right now... grin

Every photo absolutely iconic. Glad you had a nice trip, Harvey. Our Whitney plans got skunked this summer with our daughter's broken ankle, but we're determined to be there in 2015. A year without seeing the Portal, the crew, and the usual suspects is just piss-poor!
