I wonder where this was located, never even know about it until I ran across the web site.

Whitney Portal, 14 miles west of Lone Pine, had a rope tow and warming shelter.

Hi When you enter the Portal near the entrance to the camp sites 39-44 look up to the gully on the north wall of Candlelight"South side of the road" this would be that bowl above the cabin area. The tow was here, foundation is still there for the motor. Avalanche took it out around 1959 I am told. may have taken out a cabin also since that lot is empty. Thanks
