First, the average marmot situation IS bad. They are evil geniuses and require more care than bears. They can get in smaller spaces, quicker, with less fear. And they are cute as hell. Just assume you are accompanied by smart, hungry cats.
Second, I go with packable coated, non technical fabric, because it is lighter, much cheaper, and most of the time not on for long stretches , maybe an hour or two at a time. Not worth spending big bucks.
Third, camp shoes. Depends on what she is hiking in. If already in light hikers or trail runners, another shoe is a complete luxury. Bare feet. Dirty socks. Duct tape. If she is in mountaineering boots, then Crocs, Keds, running shoes, flipflops, will be a relief, and relatively light.
Fourth, things to see. This, my friend, will take care of itself.
