tried to summit on the 24th, but learned the hard way that if you don't train hard enough, you fail. I had summitted in 2003 with very little problem at age 47 in one day, so I thought at 50 whats the big deal? Well the mountain taught me a valuble lesson. with an overnite at outpost and a very large meal of that mountain house lasanga I very quickly became very ill. I don't know if it was the food or AMS, but there was no way I was going to attempt the summit the next morning. My wife the HERO actually had to help me down the mountain, I was that sick. but once down to portal,I was ok. The good news of this long story was that my son and three of his cousins were able to summit that day and will have that memory and bond forever

Sorry to hear you didn't make it. It happens to a lot of us. I'll know not to eat Mountain House Lasagna the next time I'm in the mountains. Wives are very valuable, I know, since mine has been there for me too. Best of luck the next time.

Sounds like AMS to me. Mountain House Lasagna is about the only freeze dried meal I will eat these days, most of this stuff tastes like freeze dried pigeon droppings. How hard you train has nothing to do with AMS, I have to take Diamox when going over 8,300' for a night. I would discribe my conditioning as better than most, who head up this mountain.
