Ok, I'll start off the New Year's thread...I spent a couple of weeks wandering from St. Louis out to Utah and Idaho. Succeeded in climbing Borah Peak, the Idaho state highpoint but ran into weather issues and didn't get to do Kings Peak, the Utah highpoint. That brought my state highpoint count to 44. In 2014, plans are underway for another shot at Kings (hopefully with better weather) and to try to put a group together to try the Southwest Couloir/Southwest Ramp route up Granite Peak, the Montana highpoint. Still on the "to-do" list is a second summit of Whitney, via the Mountaineers Route this time since when my son and I did Whitney back in 2001, he wasn't yet up to that route, so we opted for the main trail instead. Here's hoping everyone had a great 2013 and wishing everyone continued trekking and climbing success in 2014!

Only climbed Whitney 4 times, but they were ALL SPECIAL:
Karin on her First climb of the Directissima to Trail Crest... Randy on his First Day-Climb of Whitney... My Nephew's return to the MR for the First time since he was 9 years old (he's 22(?) now)... Joining Shin and friends for a climb of the MR without any Acclimatization... (Never figured I'd make it past LBSL!)
A few International Climbs:
The Chukhung Triple (18K+/18K+/19K+)!!! Kala Patar... Gokyo Ri with Karin!!! Zatrwa La as a day-climb from Lukla!!!
Not much else worth mentioning.
Happy New Year!

For my list, see above. Add EBC and a second 2013 Whitney summit via HST over Labor Day (5x lifetime), and a bunch of minor peaks. A Tahoe troika: Freel, Pyramid, Ralston And one heck of a winter tutu hike up the MR.

Hi everyone and Happy New Year. This year after 6 attempts I finally summited Whitney for my first time. Thanks Richard for joining me at the summit and coming down with me. I also did Baldy 32 times, but far short of Shin's record. I met many new friends and old friends from the post and from hiking Baldy and other trails. I want to thank you all for your help, support, and camaraderie. My goal for 2014 is to do Whitney again in a shorter time and to make sure the first time was not a fluke! Tracie has also been pushing me to expand my limits further so that will be a new challenge for 2014 also. Stay safe in the hills, have a good 2014, and see you on the peak.

Did in 2013 -most of my bucket list in Sierra's, San Gabs, San bernadino's and San Jacinto. -did not make it up Carillon or Russell. -did tag Mt Fuji in Japan. -best of all - did meet lots of great people on the trail.
Want to in 2014 -Do Kilimanjaro and include a safari, but, with only two weeks to play with not sure if it's possible timewise,(would welcome any advice on quickest flight routes). -Do 9 Peaks challenge in the San Bernadino's. -Complete Socal 100 HPS list.(currently at 84). -Complete Welsh 3000's challenge(15 Peaks,30 miles 24 hours) failed last time at 7 peaks almost 20 miles in white out/ Blizzard.
Happy Hiking New Year to all,
Phil.

Yes, Kili doable in two weeks with Safari. Fly KLM through Amsterdam.
Recommend Lemosho route, though, which takes about 9-11 days. Good acclimatization. Might get you a day or so over 2 weeks, but not much. (I think I did this in 16 days, with safari, door-to-door).
Example. Expect to pay $1400-2200 RT. Only stop is Amsterdam.
Los Angeles (Los Angeles Intl.) - Kilimanjaro (Kilimanjaro International Airport) - Return Departure: Fri 17 Jan 14 13:50 Los Angeles - Sat 18 Jan 14 20:50 Kilimanjaro Return: Sun 2 Feb 14 21:50 Kilimanjaro - Mon 3 Feb 14 11:50 Los Angeles

My Pleasure Ranboze! We need to get Sooz up there this year.
Did my usual 150+ summits for the year. Among the highlights: a trip up north for Bachelor, South Sister, and Shasta. Another northern peak is calling my name this year.

2013:
Whitney San Gorgonio x 2 San Jacinto Baden-Powell
Mt Baldy (Many times via 4 routes, I don't keep count but I'm on Baldy almost any week I'm not somewhere else.)
A long circuit up Mt. Islip, Hawkins, Sadie Hawkins, and S. Hawkins. None of them are great peaks but it's a very nice ramble through the Angeles NF high country.
