'Conventional wisdom' dictates that all water in the Whitney Zone (and far beyond that) should be filtered or treated in some manner. However, the last time I did the MR, I took the advice of some of the folks on this message board and didn't bother filtering or treating my water, with the understanding that the water is OK *IF* it's collected in the right locations. It turned out fine; no treatment was necessary.

I'm double-checking about this now, however, since I haven't been to this message board in about 4 years. Do many of you still feel that untreated/unfiltered water is OK on the MR, or has that opinion changed due to new/updated conditions?

I'd rather be safe than sorry, but I really don't want to waste my time filtering when it's really not necessary. Thank you.

I learned from Doug Sr. and Richard P. that there are two good water sources on MR. One is 5-10 minutes before Lower Boy Scout lake. The creek is on your right hand side. Another one is upper section of Clyde meadow. I got water from Clyde meadow on 24th and the water was just fine. All creeks had a plenty of water last week.

I bought a water filtration kit about 5 years ago but never had a chance to use it once.

Very small amount of water is at below Iceberg Lake.

If you need ice, you can find small patches in last 400 FT.
