Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Permit Question

I don't know if this is possible but I have a day permit reserved for Monday Aug 19th and I have a couple friends with permits on Wednesday Aug 21st. Ideally I would like to hike with them and I am wondering if it is possible to trade or if my best bet is to try for the day of lottery.

Hi Turn your permit in and pick up one if they have an opening on the day before.

That doesn't make any sense, Doug. (And, what if you turn your permit in and they have two openings on the day before? What then?)

Hi He only needs one!So again the second guy that turned in his permit would also have a permit, like the horse race 3,4,5 pay low odds if any.

But an Exacta would be three outta three, so free permits for everyone!

you should be fine. we arrived at the visitor center at 7:45am on Saturday the 17th. at 8am there was a lottery to see what order we would be helped. our group was #8 out of 10 groups. we were still able to get 3 day hike permits and were out of the visitor center by 8:15am.
