I just happened to go check the recreation.gov site to see if we can pick up our permit 2 days before our 7/4 permit date, and saw this lovely sentence:
"Permit Pick Up: You should receive a reminder email 14 days before your trip. THIS IS NOT YOUR PERMIT! Confirm your group size online 2 to 14 days before your trip, or your reservation will be canceled."
Um, I never received a reminder email (and yes, I checked my junk inbox). I'm still within the time frame, so there shouldn't be a problem, but is this standard procedure?! I feel bad for the suckers who don't get the email and drive all the way up to Lone Pine - does Inyo really cancel reserved permits for those people?

No need to worry. Remember we're dealing with the U.S. Gov. Your permits our still their waiting for pick up.
Make sure when you get to the Lone Pine Visitor Center you tell them Crazy Jack sent you. Second thought maybe thats not a good idea, they might put you at the end of the line.
Have a fun and safe hike.
See you on the trail, Crazy Jack and Wildflower Betsy

The email is confusing, but when I was in your position, this is what I figured out. If you confirm, they will hold the permit until the end of your day of entry. If you don't confirm, the will release it at 10 am on your day of entry. You may want to check this for yourself, of course, but that's where reading all the small print got me.
In any event, if you go log on to rec gov and check your res, there should still be a little confirm button. Just hit it and you should be fine.

No need to worry. Remember we're dealing with the U.S. Gov. Isn't recreation.gov run by ReverveAmerica, a private contractor?

Actually, they are two separate entities. Recreation.gov is a part of the feds, and reserveamerica is a private contractor. I talked to both places at length (and to an actual supervisor at each place). The redundancy is amazing - each place has the data access to the same places, same times, and same reserve protocol. I asked each place why they have two entities and my reply from the feds was, "we don't know" and from the private side was, "we're not sure why the feds spend money to contract us, and yet spend fed money to run their own reservation site". So in the interest of your federal budget, here is a prime example of budget mismanagement. And wait until they take care of your health records.

See you on the trail, Crazy Jack and Wildflower Betsy Thank you, Jack! I've already dropped your name here & there, after having a very informative conversation with you & Bets at the A16 Backpackers' Swap!

I heard that. I'm sure Blackwater wonders why the Marines still bother to exist. And DOD sure can't explain Blackwater (or whatever DBA they are using these days), either.
