Just wondering if the rental prices have been set for Bear Cannisters at the Whitney Portal Store for the season?

Thanks!

Hi Bear cannister rental is $2.00 a day or $10.00 A week , which ever is cheaper, We rent and sell bear cannisters as a deal for the bears, We tried reservations and found two questions on the form was a bit much, so we bought enough cans to supply the Whitney Trail. Thank You Doug WPS

I noticed the bear canisters are required during May 25th to Oct 31st , will I still need them up the MR route on the last week of March, only time leaving camp will be above Iceberg Lake ? Thanks for the advice

My thoughts are the first wave of people in the area each year set the bear problem in motion . No food source no bears . The MR area is a wild card ,we know that bears live up there and people give us reports of seeing them coming out of North Fork all summer long ,but so far bears are not seen at IceBerg lake ,Until That Day one goes up there and gets food , then it's over Just like trail camp, We watched the tracks go above Outpost Camp to above Mirror Lake and then Trailside Meadow and THEN FOOD CITY at trail camp, but as soon as the cannisters were required and enforced the bears returned where food could be found. Iceberg area marrmots are always a problem . Also make sure your car is cleaned out , again the bears are active and your car maybe one of the few in the area and will be checked by the bears. Last year we moved up to the store the middle of April and every night the bears came by the trailer and truck. Just Checking!
