Richard Almost Made It! That was the theme of the day. Like the many sporting events across the globe I now can proudly pass the Scolly award on to Richard!
What a special day we all had! It began with Richard Almost making this Family Reunion. Richard what happened? Other than the theme of the day being Shin’s 300th summit it was also about our great family reunion but it was like a cool song where the chorus of the song is (pretend there is music) “where is richard” bomb bomb bomb Hey “where is Richard”…..
LOL Seriously who fly’s down to Mexico to climb a volcano and then goes home???? LOL Not the same this is Baldy but ok all kidding aside….
Shin congrats you have allot I mean allot of people who love you. This trip was so special because the people, the mountain took backstage to such special special people. Like so many have said a great day with old friends and new ones! I had a great time hanging with my friends at the hut for 3-4 hours while my other friends trekked up the bowl to the summit. At the hut Pavel made us a kind of Sausage potato lentil green pea soup that was fantastic. Pavel in his usual style was trying to get everyone to drink..HEY WHERE”S RICHARD? When Shin got back to the hut he had the biggest, hugest smile on his face he was a very happy man. After another hour of socializing at the hut we helped Pavel clean up then went down to the Lodge for dinner which we pretty much took over ½ the restaurant…
Doug thanks for coming out you always make these things special! MC we always love and appreciate your big beautiful smile. Rosie great to finally meet ya even though we were on the Thor climb together. Norma and Cori thanks for the ride. Can't wait to climb with Cori again she is special peeps.... Sonya and HikerGirl was great to chat with ya and sign with ya in the hut. Ty finally get to meet that son you always talk about that was special man. & Lilbitmo smile is always so contagious as is the HypoxicNuggetZombieKingArthurDoggiedude! Trailbud great to hang with ya at the hut all day...And Jim sweet daughter you have bro..Take care of her or she'll turn into a frozen yeti. Kristine next time we'll bring the 85 degree bread I promise.
Thanks WPSMB Family for making this a memorable day for Shin and for the rest of us! & Richard 2012 Scolly Award goes to you buddy!!!
I'll load pics tonight, sorry my Sunday was so busy hangin with Whitney all day..But not much to add I mean everyone else pics are awesome. yeti

I gladly accept.... I do deserve it... and am reminded of that old English proverb (I think)... Who needs enemies when you've got friends like this

I think that there is also a part that says "keep your enemies close and your so-called friends far away."
But we admit it -- we missed you on Saturday, Richard.

Richard I can only hope you are joking becuase all kidding aside on Saturday you had allot of friends worried about what happened to you. We only dished it out to you becuase you love to dish it out to us, am I wrong? I won't joke anymore about this becuase I too have missed events like this and the punishment itself is looking at all the fun you missed! Like the Dragon Peak group Hike I missed backin 09 because of work man looking at those pics was gut wrenching! But I still have a job so I guess that's more important than a group hike.... Take care bro and have a Merry Christmas!

I second Jeff's remark about regrets. I think I made the sensible choice by not joining you all Saturday. I am way more susceptible to cold than I used to be and I don't have really good cold weather gear. But when I look at the pics I really, really wish I had been there. Somebody would have hugged me to keep me warm.
Again, congratulations Shin.

Some emptied that AND climbed the bowl! Hard to tell if it increased the amount of howling between the groups in the bowl and on the ridge. Now that I think of it, there was plenty of that south of the hut...must have been good old fashioned excitement.
That said, it was damn fine Tequila.

That said, it was damn fine Tequila. Anyone who knows me can attest that I always howl when I'm having a good time... especially in fresh snow, with and without Tequila. Saturday it was with. I saw my friends going up the bowl and howled at them. Zach communicated back with his ear piercing Snow Creek Scream. Good hearted silliness.

indeed...it was great to be a part of it. appreciated having trail broken up the bowl too! I'll have to employ that strategy more often

So now you have Shin hooked on crack climbing? He'll never look at mountains the same way.
Getting hooked on climbing opens the door to whole bunch of craziness. Joshua Tree is a good start but I'll bet it's not long before Shin moves onto the big stuff. When are you doing to drag him up Whitney's East Buttress?

I'm obsessed with Josh the way Shin is obsessed with Baldy and the way RP is or used to be obsessed with Whitney so no time soon....There are too many way too many routes in Josh to bother with climbing anywhere else except for July to August...

Interesting. I understand your connection with Josh. It's pretty @!#!@# special. I'll be there next weekend. We are headed to Moosedog Tower but I'll add Mental Physics to our list(and other trad leads up to 5.9)
My son loves climbing too, but he's really wants start mountaineering. Hopefully our Josh experience will help us on bigger climbs. For 2013 we're trying to squeeze in a few climbs at Lone Pine Peak, Whitney's East Butt and Russel's Fishhook Arete. I bet there's a few people on the board with good experience on these climbs. Maybe I should start a new thread.

the way RP is or used to be obsessed with Whitney I've been spending way more time at ThumperTalk and CRFs only... I'm already starting to develop a Beer Belly... I think that by 2013 I'll have to let the belt out a notch... (You going to win that weight bet?) Why would I want to walk when I can rip it up? I'm finding it kind of fun learing how to wrench again... Which really is necessary with this new (old) tempermental racing machine... BTW, the East Butt is and always will be a classic... I'll repeat it as many times as I'm invited up... I've already told Shin I'll follow him up anytime he feels ready...

Zombie and I did the 6 a few weeks back called Tranquility. I'm stuck at the 7's probally a few more years before I'm doing 9's....It's a long road but a beautiful ride!!!!!

Actually, my son is the mountain goat. He can lead 5.9. I simply follow along and clean up the gear.
Whitney East Buttress is 5.7. We're looking forward to doing this in late May or early June.
