I went up the main trail and back on Tuesday October 9. I last used the radio just before getting down to the Portal around 5 PM, but when I arrived home I couldn't locate it. I recall sitting on a rock over by the picnic area toilets to change from my hiking clothes, and likely laid out a couple of things while doing so. Maybe the radio, my sunglasses (also missing), a canteen. Or the radio could have fallen out back up the trail a ways.

I emailed Doug and he looked around, but no luck.

If anyone comes across a relatively small black boxy hand-held two-way radio with a prominent antenna, with the letters CLMRG and #19 stenciled in silver/white on it, please let me know. (CLMRG stands for China Lake Mountain Rescue Group.) It's about the size of a bottle of single malt, but the shape is different. I like that radio. It has helped in several problems up there over the last few years.

Many thanks for being on the lookout.

Found it! At home, hidden with my boots. Sorry to cause trouble.

Hi Bob,

I'm glad to read you found your radio. I am still looking for your pants you lost at trail camp in October 2005. Can I stop looking now??

Nice to run into you at the Visitor Center. Hope to see you again soon.

Malt?

Bob, I knew it was in your boots!

Glad all is well. I know that feeling when you thought you lost something only to find out it was where you last put it.

My wallet is a testimonial to that.

Journey well...
