This last week I did a loop out of Crescent Meadow to Picket Creek and Kaweah Basin. On the way out on Friday, as I got to Precipice Lake I spotted someone there who stood out. Although I had never met her in person, I had seen her picture a number of times on this forum, so I thought it sure looked like Laura, but I thought she stayed mostly on the east side. I hurried to catch a few pictures of the lake, and then went back to talk with her. Sure enough, it was Laura (as if there could be any mistake). She told me that she is on a two week trip that covers a large part of SEKI.

I had the pleasure of walking down the trail with her from Precipice Lake to just below Hamilton Lake. Now I know why everyone likes her so much. Here she is at Precipice, with Valhalla in the background

The rest of my pics from my trip are here

John, it was an absolute pleasure to finally meet you and Mark out there! I think that spot at Precipice was one of my favorite campsites of the trip! Your pictures are incredible, and now I really "get" what you were saying about the Picket Creek drainage. I looked up there as I strolled down from Colby a few days ago (while watching the clouds start to gather, yikes!!), and while I can't imagine heading UP the Colby Pass trail from Kern Canyon, I know I'll make an exception at some point to explore up there. There's just TOO much good stuff!

The rest of the walkabout went incredibly smoothly (read: no more snakes!!), and I came out yesterday morning to the Portal. Solid attempt on Mt. Pancake and lounging all day, hot shower, wearing a cute little dress, and beer. Lots and lots of beer. ;-)

All the best,
L
