Update on Whitney Permits. Called the visitor center and found that there have been quite a few no shows in recent weeks. Thursday (6/21) had 29 day hike no shows (out of 100) and Friday (yesterday) had 39. To claim the no show permits you show up at the Lone Pine Visitor Center at 2PM the day before the hike, the ranger will check for no shows and release available permits at this time. You must do this in person. You can also call the center after 2PM (760) 873-2483 to check and then show up before 5PM to pick up available permits.
