Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Need 2 passes for entry July 27th, 28th or 29th

Hi. After acclimating at 10k last Saturday the 16th and spending much of 17th at the Portal, My two sons and I started up at 5am on 6/18, but had to turn back around at about 2 miles as one of my boys had an intestinal problem.

So, I am hoping two of us can get hold of passes for entry on the last weekend of July. Day pass or overnight, but Day pass preferred. Crossing my fingers...

Still need some passes, day or overnight if anyone has extras

Yes!!! 8 day hike permits just showed up on recreation.gov for July 28th and I was able to snag two of them for myself and my son.

So, we will head up thursday night and sleep up at Horseshoe Meadows/cottonwood campground area at 10k feet, pick up our passes Friday morning and spend the day relaxing at the portal. Take off early Saturday morning for an awesome kick @$$ day hike up to the peak.

I don't usually use the Reservation System, but as I've mentioned before, getting skunked at the IAVC scares me more than a hard "winter" climb... in ending this LONG streak I've got going.

I've got permits for the 14th and 28th. I'll keep watching for additional dates to open up.

This will also allow me to sleep at home and pick up the permit from the Night Box.
