I have already received quite a few excellent updates on the mt whitney trail as well as trails leading to mt whitney. I will be hitting the sheperherd pass trailhead on june 27th....my only other question...is: are there any lingering snow fields between tyndall creek and guitar lake? The trip looks to be pretty much snow free, but i just wanted to know what i may encounter between these to points...any info would be great. Thanks to everyone who has provided a wealth of information on the mt whitney area. I'm really looking forward to getting down there, this is my 3rd attempt( i have not yet summited).

I did this in the reverse direction a few weeks ago and there wasn't that much snow then. (West side switchbacks, down past Guitar, some shaded spots on the way to the SPT Junction, some along the trail to the junction.)

Davey McCoy and Tracy did this about a week ago, so they could give you updated conditions.

They post over at that other site...

Just hiked the shephard pass trailhead through Anvil camp and over the Shephard pass. (24-June-2012)

Only snow is a small portion located at the very top of the pass. Easy to cross. No ice axe or crampons needed.

Cheers,
