I made it up Langley this past weekend from the upper parking lot at Horseshoe Meadows. There was still a little snow over the trail near the top of Army Pass but most of the trail is dry. What snow there was was pretty soft. I broke out my ice axe but had more problems post holeing than with my footing. I met a couple of groups coming down from the summit. It looked like most folks were using New Army Pass. Saw "Mike from Ohio" on his way out. Good to see you again, Mike!

Yes, there is a trail. It descends to a junction with the PCT and after a short hike north descends along Rock Creek to Lower Rock Creek Crossing. Then up over Guyot Pass to Crabtree Meadow where you head up the John Muir Trail towards Mt. Whitney...about 42 miles from Horseshoe Meadow to Whitney Portal.

See my website for a play by play.

We are doing this hike in July, Horseshoe to Langley and back. We are doing it in two days, camping at the lakes. Can anyone recommend which lake in the Cottonwood lakes group is the best for camping with a group of 10? Also, it sounds like snow won't be an issue on either Army pass in July. Which of the passes is recommended , New Army or Old Army for access to Langley?
