Hello all. I was just wondering about the Russell to Whitney trek this "early" in the season. I have done that trek (ridge climb up Russell then up Mountaineer's route on Whitney) in the late summer and I'm wondering if anyone can offer tips and concerns about this route. I plan on being there in a little over a week or so. Thanks so much.

I'd call it practically snow-free.

I came down the MR yesterday and it felt like a summer climb. Maybe 5 steps on soft snow.

I was in the Arctic Lakes drainage in the morning. No snow on the traverse to Russell. Quite a bit of snow down in the bottom, but that won't effect you.

A guess would be a bit of snow in shaded areas on the East Ridge.
