Inyo Co. Roads Dept says they are scheduled to open the roads to Horseshoe Meadow & Whitney Portal on the 27th, but to call before getting on the road to make sure.

The road to Onion Valley will also be officially open the 27th.

Something to do with fishing season.

The official eastern Sierra fishing opener is almost always the final weekend of April.

Does anyone know if the road leading to Glacier Lodge (from Crocker in Big Pine) is open all the way until the trailhead?

Yep! It's been open since at least March.

Great! Thanks Tiff. Would you by chance know the snow coverage of either Kidd Mtn or Mt Alice and the basin there?

If I remember correctly, there wasn't a ton of snow of the mtns. The North Fork trail was pretty clear of snow until near the First Lake/Birch Lake junction. I have a few photos (and a link to more) posted here: Big Pine adventures

We stayed at Glacier Lodge last Labor Day. The manager said that the road was plowed to the trailhead all winter.

Don't forget your microspikes.

Glacier Lodge road is clear all the way, trail is completely dry in both the south fork to the switchers leading to Willow Lake/Mosquito Hell, light snow on the trail on that face.

Rock Creek Road is clear to the pack station.

Did the storm last night/today cause any road problems?
Anyone got a guess at the snow amount from this storm?

Anyone know when they expect to open up Horseshoe Meadow Rd. I was thinking of planning a Memorial Weekend trip with my 2 teenage boys up to Cottonwood Lakes. How's the snow pack been up there this year? Is this too early to plan this 2 day hike? Any info would be much appreciated.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's soon-ish.

As for snow pack:

I just called the Interagency visitor center and they said probably not until next week, but were pretty vague about it. I was so hoping to get up there this weekend!
Anyone know how to contact the Inyo County Roads Dept that Wingding mentioned?
<Zang,> Memorial Day weekend should be fine, as long as you're not heading over New Army Pass. Last year the HM road didn't open until about June 15, so we're least 6 weeks ahead as far as snow melt.
