I had no clue that you needed a Whitney day permit to climb the east buttress. I need four permits for 8/14. If anyone has any I would be willing to buy them for a reasonable price. I understand about the standby procedure where you show up the day before but because of logistics I would prefer to have permits in hand rather than show up and not be able to get a permit the day before

Hi NO WAY TO SAY THIS NICE: SO YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SELL PERMITS.

Try doing the day hike permit first then as a last ditch overnight on the North Fork permit system . Picking any time the first three weeks of August is rough. Wait a week and head in with a no show permit.

East face is a 8-10 hour car to car hike if your are in shape and solid climber, spend some days in the high country to get ready for the elevation and approach. It would be good to have a member of the party that has been on the route several times.Do two on a rope and out the same canyon.
The buttress is cleaner and a better climb as an option. Thanks Doug

Thanks Doug

Sorry I did not think about the selling of permits, Doug what is your opinion of having to apply for Whitney permit to climb the fish hook arete on Russell. I was shocked when I spoke to ranger in Lone Pine and he informed me that I would need a Whitney zone permit to climb Russell. I had no clue and as such never applied for the lottery so I could climb Russell. I just cannot understand the logic in this. Again sorry about the offer to purchase permits

If your schedule is flexible, you have a very good chance of scoring a walk in permit. 8/14 is a weekday so that makes your chances even better.
