Headed up the Main Trail Side to put in tracks up the mountain.
It was windy.
It snowed a bit.
It felt like it snowed a lot, but that was mostly spindrift.
It took a lot of work to put tracks in up to Trail Camp. (I need to be in LA next weekend, so I can't do a multi-day up Whitney next weekend. Here's hoping the wind doesn't fill it in.)
It felt like Winter for a change.
It was an outstanding day.
I took the track on a direct line towards the Lone Pine Creek cascade below the Log Crossing (what some of us call the X-C route and others call Shortcuts), then went up the Switchbacks beyond the Whitney Zone Boundary to Bighorn Park and Outpost Camp. Above Mirror Lake, I headed on a somewhat direct line towards the drainage from Consultation Lake and up to Trail Camp. Hopefully, the "Trench" will be used, rather than having people panic because they don't trust that the track is heading in the right direction and lay in a bizzilion other tracks. Keep dreaming. Here are some favorite photos:
The Log Crossing.
This is about as good as the view towards Trail Crest got...
Outpost Camp.
Exiting the Whitney Zone.
There were other people on the mountain.
