I’ve got to know many of you over the years, either by meeting you personally on various hikes, or by communications thru this Board. Some of you already know that I’ll be turning 60 years in a couple weeks.

I will be enjoying my birthday by doing a day hike up Mt. Whitney on Saturday, October 8th (walk-in permit and weather permitting), and hope to see some of you on the trail or at Whitney Portal. Some of my family will be joining me and camping at the Portal Thursday and Friday prior to the hike, and then we will stay at the Whitney Portal Hostel in Lone Pine Saturday night (the 8th).

I am blessed with good health, and I am loved by family and friends…. no one could ask for more. So for my birthday, I am going to borrow an idea from the book “Eat, Pray, Love” by asking family and friends to please consider making a donation to the cause so close to my heart – “A Hike For Hope”.

“A Hike For Hope” was started in 2009 in memory of my younger son. Sonny was committed to helping those living with HIV/AIDS in our county, and the world. He was a compassionate and dedicated advocate for those living with HIV/AIDS. I invite you to visit our webpage www.ahikeforhope.com for more information on our organization, to read Sonny’s Story, and for donation information if you are so inclined.

Thanks… and I hope to see you on the mountain.
Rosie

Looking forward to meeting you Tracie! What day is your birthday? (Mine's not actually the 8th but the 13th - the following Thursday. The weekend just works better for a hike smile )

If we make this into an "Official" "Sanctioned" WPSMB Hike with the Portal or Hostel Potluck aftwards Yeti will be there!
I really enjoyed the Thor Peak one and last year we didn't have one or we did and I missed it!!!

smile Sounds great!

How do we go about making it "official"? We might also want to start a new thread with a different title... I like the direction this is going.

Rosabella I can post something to the effect of "Offical WPSMB Group Hike" to celebrate Rosabella and Tracie's Birthday!!!!

We would need info from Doug on the post hike party be it at the Portal or at the Hostel? Would need Doug's approval I would assume for both. Then we would need a head count by next Wed so someone on Friday can get permits.

Since Whitney is a long day it might be easier to have the dinner at the Portal but that might be harder for Doug and crew so I don't want to even attempt to guess........

Hi Lets make this a special day for Rosie and Tracie and well anyone.I think the potluck at the Hostel, we have room for the slide shows and it is warm in case weather turns . Also many may just want to do the potluck and a short day hike or no hike at all. Thanks Doug

Watch the group size and we may need different start times, Doug

Thanks Doug, it will be a special day; Snow Nymph and Tomcat's birthdays are all within a week or so of mine also , so there are a lot of birthdays coming up soon. I'm SO looking forward to seeing old friends, and meeting some new ones.

Jeff, if you'd start the new thread, we could get a better idea of how many people will be hiking. I'll be arriving in Lone Pine Thursday afternoon, so I could pick up the permits on Friday. Thanks again!
