Did any of you see this man flying past Mt. Whitney in August? He's the first paraglider to cross the Southern Sierra from East to West. The local paper here did a story on him, but I don't think it says which day in August he was in the air. Cool photo he took of Mt. Whitney from 17,000 feet. Wish the Record Courier's website would let me enlarge it, though: http://www.recordcourier.com/article/20110917/NEWS/110919880/1062&ParentProfile=1049
Is it legal to paraglide, base jump, hang-glide, skydive, etc. in seki? Does it matter if you don't touch the ground? I would guess no on both but I'm not sure.
Different type of glider - but in the late 90's I flew into the Owens Valley from the west in a Navy A-7 and encountered a hang glider around 18,000 ft. Depending upon the wind - or lack of - he could have gone a very long way before landing.
Since he knew he'd be getting publicity out of it if he made it, I would think he'd check into the legality of it beforehand. But people don't always do what I expect them to do.
