I am always a bit off the topic of Whitney when I'm here but I know I can count on a few to provide some insight. I am going to attempt Split Mt in two weeks and was wondering if an axe is needed for the north slope route or is it possible to stay on rock? Or should I bring the axe because the snow is better than rock? First time exploring that area so any info would be great.
(I am prepared for the roads to the TH. I have a truck). Thanks.
