Hi there,

I will be arriving to Lone Pine on halloween and wonder what the possibilities for grocery shopping at Lone Pine are? This, so I know if I can buy food/snacks/water etc for my Whitney trip there or if I have to buy in some other town before I arrive. I will be arriving in the evening as well (if that makes a different).

There's a market on the West side of the street in Lone Pine. It's not huge, but they actually have a pretty good selection for a small town market. If you're not real particular about brands, you should be able to find whatever you need. Prices aren't too bad either from what I remember.

The name of the market is Joseph's. They are surprisingly well stocked including produce and meats. Their hours are something like 8AM to 9PM daily or some such as best as I remember.

I shop at Joseph's usually. Last August bought a pint of something to eat labeled "Potatoe Salad."

Didn't find any toes in it, and didn't notice Dan Q. manning the register, either.

There are shady folks hanging around there at certain times of day, just be vigilant.

Sometimes they run out of ice, get there early. One day they ran out of water, too and I had to hunt around, ended up at a gas station a little north of there and paid $2.35 a gallon for water.
