Hi there,

A friend of mine and I will be doing an overnight hike up Mt. Whitney on June 4-5. We have the permit for this hike, but we weren't that lucky with Whitney Portal camp reservation.

Would anyone be willing to share a campsite at Whitney Portal on June 3. We have just one tent and one car, and require little space :-)

Thanks in advance.

PS: Lone Pine camp is booked out as well.

Igor, if it were me, I would camp at one of the Horseshoe Meadow / Cottonwood Lakes campsites.

It should'nt be the mad house that the Portal will sure to be that weekend, and you get to sleep at 10,000 ft.

Only bummer is it takes about 1 hr. to drive to the Portal from there. Just get up 1 hr earlier. For a quiet nights sleep at altitude it's worth it.

Also, make sure you're damn awake if you make that drive. It's one road you don't want to drive off.

Yes. July 4-5 is the climb, we are looking for a place to sleep on July 3rd. Sorry about the error.

there are one night only walk-in sites available to climbers with no reservation needed, i've never had a problem getting one the three years i've been up there. and with only two people you will be fine. but they're one night only, so break down whatever your not hiking with and stuff it in your car...or bear locker if it happens to smell like something a bear might want to eat...

That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks!

I also got an offer to share a campsite with one of the fellow campers, so I'm sure that we'll be fine.

Thanks everyone.

I will also be looking for a campsite on the 3rd, so if anyone wants to split the cost let me know? Of course if they have room!
