Heading out for an attempt on Mt. Williamson this weekend and was wondering if anyone can offer some trail/conditions reports.

We're doing the traditional Shepherd's Pass trail and making our attempt on the West Face from the Williamson bowl.

Thank you in advance.

Good luck Weber. I want to do Williamson sometime soon also. I'd be interested to hear how you are doing it. How many days on the trail? What's the size of your group? Has anyone been there before? Do you know what to expect, etc.? Please post a trip report when you get back. Have fun and be safe.

MJ - We used Summitpost as our general source of information as it provides the best trail description I could find.

Unfortunately, we did not make our attempt on the West Face due to a late start and underestimating the effort required to get through the Williamson bowl. Traversing the bowl is not difficult, just tedious and time consuming.

The hike up to Shepherd's pass was straight forward and we only crossed snow a few times above Anvil camp at approx. 10,500 ft. All in all, the trail is a great hike we were just moving too slow to make it up to the summit this trip.

May consider another attempt later in the season.

If you do make an attempt, I would recommend camping at the pass or in the bowl to give yourself ample time. Otherwise, the hike from Anvil camp adds another 2+ miles each way. Good luck.

GMB - Sorry for the late reply but I don't typically check the message board on a frequent basis.

To answer your question, the creek crossings were a little swollen and required us to take our shoes off to cross...nothing bad though with water only up to my knees on the deepest crossing. Actually felt good on a hot day to get in the water.
