I posted about Anne & Mike last summer when I met them at Sabrina Campground on Labor Day weekend. Their book,
"Crested Butte Colorado: 60 Scenic Day Hikes" is now on the shelves....well, on the internet shelves so far.
Here is a recent letter from Anne, the author.
(keep in mind, they are in their 60's and they are just an amazing couple)
Hello Stacy,

Mike and I went to New Zealand in October and have just come back. We decided that we needed to do another adventure; we were feeling a bit older I guess and needed to stir the juices again. So, we cycled New Zealand for four months. It was not an easy adventure; New Zealand is difficult cycling; if the hills don’t get you, the gale force winds, rain, and cold temperatures might. Still, we had the most challenging and rewarding time. We feel young again, enthusiastic and motivated. Mike pulled a heavy trailer with most of our gear for camping. Add food, computers, my medicine and an occasional box of wine to his load. He was amazing! I carried our clothes and kitchen pots which was all I could do with my compromised lungs. We camped out in a tiny tent and enjoyed it more than being in a house. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. Before we left, we created a web site, then posted photos and stories about many of our travels. It is called www.hikingbikingadventures.com. We are still posting New Zealand stories there.

We are now in Mazatlan, Mexico having flown from Auckland to LA to Mazatlan. It feels strange not to be riding a bike, but we are glad to be relaxing and getting back into tennis. We will stay in Mexico until summer begins in the states. No idea yet, where we will be for the summer. Looking at different options. Actually, interested in working for a cycling tour company, but so far everyone has already hired.

For us, the most exciting news is that our hiking guide, “Crested Butte Colorado: 60 Scenic Day Hikes” is now published and in print. It has been a long process from start to finish. We received our copy while in New Zealand and are thrilled with the way it turned out. You will forgive us if we feel proud. We are dispersing it to western book stores, outdoor stores and other small outlets through a wholesaler based in Denver. Even though they have 7000 accounts with such places, we are still expected to create the demand! That seems a bit backwards to us, but that’s how it works. If you have knowledge of a particular outlet that you think would carry a hiking guide, please do let us know. We can send them a sample of the book by e-mail, if we know who “them” is!
In the meantime, we have managed to get the book on Amazon.com. Wow, was that ever a learning curve! We have attached a sample of the book to this letter for you to enjoy. Once it is open, click on View, then Page Display. Uncheck “show cover page during two up” and check “two up” Then the maps and photos will match across the pages. You can also go to Amazon.com where you can Search Inside the book. We have posted about 30% of the content so you can get a really good idea of what's there.
We won't be going back to Sabrina campground this year. Although we met a lot of wonderful people there, our feet are too itchy to stay in one place.
Take care. We hope you like the book.
Best wishes,
Anne & Mike Poe

Thanks for reading,
Stacy

Stacy,

Thanks for the update, those were some very nice "camp hosts" and it was nice talking to them while we were there. Glad they had another great adventure in New Zealand - I'll check out the book as well. smile

No problem Patrick, that was a fun trip!
Mike and Anne are on my top ten list of people to admire for "going out there and getting it DONE!"
