Good morning, Party People.

I have been on the Mount Whitney trail for several years in a row doing a "one day" portal to summit & back every summer & I was wondering- has anyone tried to get to the summit from Hogback Creek Road? On the gps it seems to get into the 13 thousand foot elevation, & I am very interested to give it a shot. Does anyone have any information on the road itself? I went 4 wheeling there last August looking for a fishing spot but my truck was too wide after a few miles... I am wondering if anyone has gotten to the top?

It's used by a few people for access to the Gambler's Special crash site. I drove most of it in a Corolla a few summers ago. Expect to get scratches in you vehicle if you head all the way up.

If you wanted to get to Whitney, you'd have to cross over the ridge (it's been done) and then down into the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek.

I've been looking at it from the perspective of climbing over Tunaborra to get into the Wallace Creek drainage. This will be much easier than traversing into the NF.

.............Dug was recently up there for an overnight.

scratches I can live with- thank you very much! Is it scenic? I'm thinking of day hiking up into the snow from there or maybe trucking a group up to downhill mountain bike...

I've never been up out of the scrub brush, but the photos I've seen of the higher elevations up there looked pretty.

Straight up. And that's just to the wreck site. After that it gets crazy depending on which line you pick. Car sized boulders are loose up there. That's if you pick the correct canyon. If you take one on either side of the wreck I have no....................................................DUG
