Does anyone have a preference on a campground and a favorite spot out of these? I plan to be flying by the seat of my pants so I don't want to make any campground reservations.

Cottonwood Pass
I'd like to stay at Onion Valley Campground but according to its reservation site it closes after 25 Sept.
I've stayed at the Whitney Portal campground a few times but it appears my favorite spots are reserved for the dates in Oct. I'll be in the area.
